Study Strategies | Peer-to-Peer Individual Consultations

Make an appointment to meet with a study strategies peer consultant trained to assist students in the areas of learning strategies (reading, notetaking, exam prep and studying), time management, goal-setting and overcoming procrastination as well as making referrals to other useful campus resources.

Why would I use the Peer Individual Appointment Service?

What are the rules and requirements for using this service?

By-Appointment serves undergraduate students working on any coursework in any department on campus. We do not provide subject-matter tutoring; our focus is on the processes of and strategies for learning in your courses. Study Strategies staff are only available for appointments during scheduled hours. Appointments are up to one hour in length and take place between the hours of 9:00 and 6:00 in the Cesar Chavez Student Center—usually in the atrium.
To get the most out of your sessions, come prepared.

Grad Students: This service is limited to undergraduate students. Graduate students interested in receiving writing support should contact the Graduate Division, 301 Sproul Hall.
Staff do NOT read statements of purpose or application essays. For assistance with statements of purpose or application essays, please go to the Career Center website.

How do I make an appointment?

  • You can schedule an appointment for any time in the next two week window. If you would like to make an appointment on a date later than two weeks from now, please return to the site two weeks before that date. You may schedule as many as two appointments per week, but not more. The sign-up system will not permit more than two appointments per week. To schedule an appointment, just click on the link below.
  • Provide your name, local phone number, e-mail address, SID, and the number and title of the course you want to focus on, if any.
  • At the time of your appointment, go to the Study Strategies Drop-In table (next to the Writing Drop-In table) in Cesar Chavez Student Center Atrium.
  • Please note that appointments made with less than 24 hours notice are not guaranteed, though possible. If you make an appointment with less than 24 hours notice go to the Drop-In table and ask for your peer consultant by name. Plan ahead and schedule your appointment at least 24 hours before you want to meet.

How do I cancel an appointment?

Appointments must be cancelled AT LEAST 24 hours in advance.To cancel an appointment, click on the link below and follow onscreen directions. Keep in mind that we are scheduling time for you and no one else. Cancelling an appointment on the day of an appointment makes it nearly impossible for us to serve another student during that time slot.
